I am glad you are here, taking a moment to ask yourself what it is that you need to feel a greater sense of contentment in your life. My name is Heather Dodge and I am an experienced psychotherapist offering virtual and in-person sessions in Belmont Village, Kitchener, Ontario. For the past 5 years I have been honoured to work with hundreds of clients who have come to me with a variety of emotional and relational issues. I have learned during my time as a therapist just how lonely it can be to navigate being human and how complex navigating personal relationships can be at times. Every single one of us has a story that deserves to be witnessed by someone who is compassionate and curious. Your experience up to this moment in your life matters and has impacted the person you are today.
One of my deepest passions is helping clients better understand how childhood trauma and relationships across the life span have shaped the person they are today. Nothing we do is random, finding the root cause of our behaviours, emotional tendencies and attachment tendencies is how we change the way we approach our future. Many of us think we cannot change or worry we have waited too long to address long standing issues. Personally I believe that sometimes we have to wait for the right environment to encourage our healing and personal integration work. It is my intention to provide you with an emotionally safe space every time we meet so that you feel capable of exploring deeper aspects of yourself and your life.
Therapy can be a gift to yourself, a space to finally make sense of what feels broken. Trauma can make us feel shattered, left unsure of who we are and why we are here. One of the ways we heal the impact of trauma is through being seen, heard and learning ways to make sense of what happened to us. I will teach you how to identify your emotions, personal triggers and what state your nervous system is in (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and how to effectively shift your nervous system back to a place of emotional safety. I will educate you on how your unique set of circumstances has shaped you and offer you pathways back to your authentic self so you can move forward without the heaviness of your past.
